Adjusting the Torsion Bars to Change Height

  • How can I fit bigger tires on my S-Blazer without installing a lift?

  • My tires rub when I drive over things.

  • My Blazer sets awfully low (or high) in the front compared to the rear. How can I adjust it?

  • I've heard about this t-bar lift (or torsion bar crank). How much lift can I get from it?

  • Is it safe?

You've heard (or asked) these questions or some very much like them. You've also heard multiple (conflicting) responses to them. What's the right one?

We at blazerowner.com can't say with certainty what will work best for your situation, but we can tell you what it says in the Factory Service Manuals your dealer's mechanic will reference. How far can yo adjust yours? It depends on how far it is currently out of adjustment.

The measurement for determining what the factory terms Z-height is described below. Further reading will also let you know the FSM calls for setting Z-height before beginning an alignment.

For purpose of reference, this is the measurement I used to raise the front end of my last 3 S10 4x4 Blazers. (1991, 1999, 2001)  I don't believe I suffered any premature wearing of ball joints or CV shafts that could be attributed to these adjustments although I've only put a couple of thousand miles on the 2001 since doing this.

Adjusting the ride height suspension adjustments may affect critical alignment settings such as camber and caster. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you take the Blazer in for a front end alignment very soon after performing these or any other adjustments.
