It's nice to know that we weren't the only ones who managed to snap the nipple off of the "hidden" fuel tank vent valve. We managed to do it twice. After we bought a second one (alot of parts stores don't have one in stock, or they have JUST one in stock), we were very careful in replacing the tank. After finishing the job, life was good again at our house. However, when I went to drive my 97 S10 blazer for the first time, I could faintly smell fuel when I'd come to a stop. When I went to fill my tank for the first time, I had a nice surprise. Fuel had spilled out all over the ground from the stupid vent valve. To be safe, we had the blazer towed home, siphoned all of the fuel out, and prepared to drop the tank again. Sure enough, the vent valve was very loose. So, I got it in the best I could, but then tested it by tipping the tank up, and it still leaked. My guess is I tweaked the vent valve hole just enough when I was trying to get it out the second time (it was a bear). We were told to use a product called "The Right Stuff"(a silicone based sealant) at NAPA. We sealed it pretty good, I think, but when I went to fill up yesterday, I watched closely, and it started spitting out again, though, it stopped quickly when I stopped filling. I drove it home and it didn't leak, but it's obvious there is still a problem. Does anybody have a better suggestion for a sealant? Schucks suggested something called Pyrotex Red? (But we went with Napa since it was much closer to home) I'm thinking it might also just be the hose isn't tight since we've had to loosen and re-clamp it so many times. Any help would be appreciated. I'm at my wit's end over the petty problems that require overcoming huge obstacles to get to.
