Rear speakers not working; front make crackling noise.

I was reading up on this topic and I haven't seen any topic with the same problem... New to vehicle ownership and while I know how these things work to an extent... I'm not all that confident about tearing my vehicle apart to find the problem just yet.
My back speakers don't work, at first I thought it was as I've read, a possible bad channel or something of the like on the head unit. On the original (OEM Delco Electronics), if I were to put the fade completely to rear, my front speakers make a cracking and popping noise on bass. I replaced the head unit this morning to see if that was the problem (That and the stock unit being the casette only...). It still does the cracking and popping with the fade set to rear. The rear don't work with either unit.

I'd just prefer to fix it myself if I can for the fact I don't exactly have heaps of cash laying about... Hehe... And all the extra funds I'm getting are going for more vital fixes for the same truck.

On a side note, I've been told it might be a very unlikely reason, but there are a few issues with the electrical system (Gas guage likes to jump and give inaccurate readings at 1/4 tank), my wireless entry system is there and responsive, but defective (Unknown reason. It wasn't checked and locksmith was unable to get it to want to tie it to any remotes), etc... Could they possibly be related? I looked at the wire cluster before fitting it with the adapter and none of them seemed to be crossed.

Thanks beforehand!

First off the gas guage fluctuating is normal at about 1/4 tank so dont worry to much about that as its unrelated. You stated you replaced the head unit with another, are these factory or aftermarket? Also are the speakers factory or aftermarket?
