How Do I Program the Keyless Remote for my Blazer?

The first step in programming a new keyless remote is being sure that your Blazer is equipped for it.

  • If your Blazer has a push button on the tailgate, instead of a place to insert the key, it probably is equipped for keyless remotes.

  • If your Blazer has the RPO code AU0, it came equipped for keyless remote from teh factory. (RPO codes are short for Regular Production Option. When your Blazer was built, the factory installed a laminated white card in the glove box listing a number of 3 digit alphanumeric codes which identified the options installed. If AU0 is on the list, your Blazer had keyless remotes installed.)

  • If you have a working keyless remote for your Blazer, it obviously is equipped for keyless remote. These instructions will also work for you but you must also reprogram the existing remote at the same time you add the new ones.

  1. With the driver door closed, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  6. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner in order to indicate that the receiver is in
    the programming mode:
    Locking the doors
    Unlocking the doors
    Important
All extra transmitters must be programmed at this time. When a new transmitter is programmed, it will deactivate the old transmitters.
  7. Hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter until the remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner:
    Locking the doors.
    Unlocking the doors.
  8. Repeat step 7 for each additional transmitter.
  9. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

This procedure is specified for the 1999 Blazer and has been tried successfully on several other year models older and newer. The only way to be certain if it works for yours is to try it.
